On Sunday 25 August, Spain broke the record for the most consecutive T20I wins. They set the world record after beating Greece by 7 wickets in the European T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier C being played in Guernsey.

The win over Greece was Spain’s 14th successive win in men’s T20Is. The record was previously held by Malaysia, who had won 13 straight matches in 2022. Bermuda have also won 13 T20Is in a row.

Malaysia and Bermuda are followed by India, Afghanistan and Romania, who have won 12 consecutive T20Is each. The overall record is held by Thailand’s women’s team, who have recorded 17 consecutive T20I wins.

Spain’s last T20I defeat came almost two years ago when they lost to Italy. Since then, they have won 15 matches in series against the Isle of Man, Jersey and Croatia before winning more in the current T20 qualifier.

The streak was interrupted last year when rain abandoned their game against the Isle of Man. During that series, they had bowled out the Manx for just 10 runs before chasing down the target in 2 deliveries.

“It’s a record we’re proud to announce today. Obviously, we don’t play for records, but this is something special for the group. It’s been a transformative few years in Spain and a lot of the credit goes to the players who sacrifice so much of their time to play for Spain, the management and my coaching staff. I couldn’t be more proud of everyone involved,” Spain national cricket team head coach Corey Rutgers told Cricbuzz.
