Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif lavished high praise on batsman Shreyas Iyer for his amazing cricketing career of late. He said that the batsman should be appreciated for the kind of performance he put in for the team.

Shreyas Iyer has been nothing short of exceptional for India in the last few months. After a long injury layoff, he has made an amazing comeback and has carried the Indian middle order with his sensational performances with the bat.

Shreyas Iyer was one of the main reasons why India reached the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. The batsman shone on the team’s biggest platform and scored over 500 runs in the tournament, becoming the first Indian middle-order batsman to achieve the feat.

Shreyas Iyer also scored two centuries in the tournament, one of them against New Zealand in the semi-final. For the kind of performances he gave, he earned a lot of praise. If this was not enough, he produced another match-winning innings in the recently concluded fifth T20I against Australia.

Shreyas Iyer played a good knock for his team by finishing 53 runs off 37 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 143 and also hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. His knock propelled India to a total of 160 runs and eventually the team won the game.

Mohammad Kaif said it is high time people start praising him instead of pointing out his weaknesses. Taking his X account of him, he explained:

Shreyas Iyer has had a phenomenal run recently and he is to be thanked. It is time for the world to start talking about his strengths and not continue pointing out his weaknesses.”

It is important to assess the conditions and bat accordingly – Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer spoke about his knock in the fifth T20I against Australia. He said it was important for him to assess the conditions and once the first wickets fell, he worked out what the good total would be. He explained:

“It’s fascinating to see how everyone contributed and the way these guys picked themselves up from the first game, especially in the batting department.

“When I saw 3 wickets fall, I started calculating what would be the best score on this wicket and it was not easy to bat, and whenever we find ourselves in a situation like this it is important to evaluate the conditions. and we batted accordingly, today was the right example of how we did it as a team. 160 was the right total, it is a commendable total especially after losing 4 wickets at the top and the bowlers did a good job of restricting them.”

Shreyas Iyer will next be seen in action when India tours South Africa for the T20I, Test and ODI series.
