Australian star Steve Smith has signed up for the IPL 2025 mega auction at base price of INR 2 crores. The right-handed batsman has not played in the IPL since 2021 and hopes to get an IPL contract this year.
He had also registered for the IPL last year but could not attract a single offer. Smith has so far represented a total of 4 teams in the IPL.
His journey began with the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2012. In his first two IPL seasons with the Pune-based team, Smith played 22 matches and scored over 400 runs.
In the next two seasons, he plied his trade for Rajasthan Royals. In the 2014 IPL, he played 10 matches before playing 14 matches in 2015 for the Rajasthan-based team.
After the Royals were suspended, Smith played for the now defunct Rising Pune Supergiant. In 2017, he also coached the team and guided them to the finals.
In 2019 and 2020, Steve Smith again played for Rajasthan Royals before representing Delhi Capitals in 2021. In total, he played 103 matches in the IPL and scored 2485 runs with the help of one century and 11 half-centuries.
