Stuart Broad delighted as Trent Bridge pavilion officially renamed in his honour ahead of ENG vs WI second test

Trent Bridge will honour former England pace bowler Stuart Broad during the second Test between England and West Indies, which begins on Thursday 18 July. Trent Bridge will rename the pavilion at the end of the pavilion after Stuart Broad in tribute to the legendary player for his illustrious international cricket career for England.

Stuart Broad is one of the best Nottingham spinners to have played for England. The former right-arm spinner took 604 wickets in 167 Tests at an average of 27.68. Broad took 178 wickets in 121 ODIs and 65 wickets in 56 T20Is. Broad retired from international cricket after the Ashes series against Australia last year.

The 38-year-old will attend the renaming of the Pavilion End at Trent Bridge with his father, Chris Broad, and some former teammates. The ceremony will take place before the start of the second Test between England and the West Indies. According to the official website, fans are advised to be seated by 10:40am local time.

“Ticket holders for the first day of the Trent Bridge Test are advised to take their seats by 10:40am as we will officially rename the Final Pavilion at our venue in honour of Stuart Broad,” a statement read.

A great honour in one of my favourite places – Stuart Broad

Stuart Broad took to microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his gratitude, calling it a “huge honour” to have a finale named after him at one of his favourite venues.

“A great honor in one of my favorite places in the world,” Stuart wrote.

It was quite surreal – Chris Broad

The Pavilion End was renamed the Stuart Broad End in September 2023, shortly after Broad’s retirement. The upcoming Test will be the first at Trent Bridge since then. Chris Broad expressed his joy and pride in a statement, recalling his emotional reaction when he first saw the name on the scoreboard.

“I’m delighted that the Nottinghamshire Committee have decided that Stuart should be remembered in this way. To have a wing named after him is a real pleasure. It was quite surreal, the first time I visited Trent Bridge this year, to hear the announcement that the player was taking the wing from Stuart Broad,” Chris Broad said in a statement published by trentbridge.co.uk

“I took a picture of the marker and sent it to Stuart, and he got a little emotional seeing his name there. I’m very proud and it’s a privilege to see him given that honour,” he added.

Stuart Broad has fond memories at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, including his landmark 8/15 performance against arch-rivals Australia in the 2015 Ashes series. At that venue, the right-arm fast bowler took 46 wickets in 11 matches, at an average of 25.07 and an economy rate of 2.90.

The veteran fast bowler last played at the venue during the home series against New Zealand in 2022. Broad took five wickets in the two innings as the England cricket team secured a five-wicket win.
