In a conversation with Sports Tak, former Indian opener and cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar mentioned that the upcoming series against Australia will be a major challenge. He suggested that head coach Gautam Gambhir should step in to help guide the Indian batsmen.
“Gautam Gambhir will have to guide the players properly in Australia as the team will face very difficult times there,” Gavaskar said.
Although India already have Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, Gavaskar believes Gambhir has more experience than both of them. He believes Gambhir’s involvement could provide the necessary support to help the players improve their performance and regain their confidence ahead of the tough series against Australia.
He has made more runs than Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate in Test cricket, so only Gautam Gambhir will have to tell the players how to bat in Australia and what the batting approach should be, maybe we can put up a good performance. Gavaskar added.
