Suryakumar Yadav’s childhood coach Ashok Aswalkar has spoken about the personal crisis he went through. He revealed that he was sacked from his job and only told the India T20I captain about it, who then helped him.

Suryakumar Yadav is going through a tough time in his career. The right-handed bowler has been the team’s best batsman in the shortest format of the game for the past few years. This has rewarded him greatly as he was recently appointed as the T20I captain of the Indian team following the retirement of Rohit Sharma.

While Suryakumar Yadav is enjoying the best moment of his career, his childhood coach Ashok Aswalkar has been sacked from his job. After working for 24 years in Chembur’s Anushakti Nagar, he was sacked from his job where he was earning Rs 41,000 for his dual role as a curator and coach.

While speaking about his work over the years, Suryakumar Yadav’s childhood coach Ashok Aswalkar revealed that he did not tell his family that he had been sacked. He claimed that he narrated the story to the India T20I captain, who then ignored the blame.

Ashok Aswalkar also spoke about why he was sacked from his job. He revealed that when he returned from his nephew’s wedding, he was told to go back home. While narrating the entire incident to Mid-day, he explained:

“I joined BARC [Bhabha Atomic Research Centre] In 1989-90, I was assistant to Jagannath Phanse as a groundsman and coach. I started on a monthly salary of R3000 and when [ASMC] I discontinued my services in December 2023, I was receiving R26,000 per month for gardening work and R15,000 for training from a training agency.I didn’t even tell my relatives that I had lost my job. I simply sent a message to Surya to tell him that I had lost my job and told him who was responsible for this damage. Surya, in response, stopped receiving that particular person.

“I went to attend my nephew’s wedding in Malvan with prior notice. [ASMC] “I was asked to meet them upon my return on December 31. I did so, but no one spoke to me during my three-hour visit. I was then told via text to return home and that they would call me back. This was humiliating. When I was told to visit the site a week later, no one greeted me again.”

I spoke to Surya about the possibility of starting a cricket academy and he gave me a positive response: Ashok Aswalkar

Ashok Aswalkar stated that after being sent home, his office management called him, asked him questions and told him they would get back to him later, but no one has contacted him since then.

Ashok Aswalkar further revealed that after being sacked, he asked Suryakumar Yadav if he wanted to open a cricket academy and the batsman replied in the affirmative. He explained:

“After a month I received a message at home saying that some [ASMC] The members wanted to meet me on the ground. I met and talked with Mr. [Ramakant] Sahu and two other committee members were there. They asked me questions and listened attentively to what I said. The committee members said that they would get back to me soon, but till date, no one has contacted me. The last salary I received was Rs 26,911 in December 2023.”

“I am currently coaching youngsters on a grass pitch in Chembur. I spoke to Surya about opening a cricket academy and he gave me a positive response. We both want to offer coaching to youngsters in need. Money has never been a priority for us and it will not be in the future,” he concluded.
