India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best T20 players in the world. Surya has always been a brilliant batsman in T20 cricket and has shown tremendous improvement over the years. He is currently the No. 2 batsman in the ICC T20I batting rankings.

But now that he is also the captain of the Indian team in T20Is, his value has gone up several notches. Suryakumar has had limited opportunities as a captain in his career so far, but he has proved that he has the credentials to do the job.

He was the vice-captain of Mumbai Indians when Rohit Sharma was the captain of the team. But the arrival of Hardik Pandya changed everything. The team management overlooked Surya, who was initially considered the next MI captain after Rohit, and named Pandya as the captain for IPL 2024.

But Hardik’s poor season in 2024 has raised several questions. It remains to be seen whether Mumbai will change its tactics and remove Hardik from his position after just one poor season.

Will Suryakumar Yadav rejoin KKR for IPL 2025 as captain? Here’s what the reports say

According to journalist Rohit Juglan, Suryakumar Yadav has received an unofficial offer from Kolkata Knight Riders to return and join his former team and lead the side. Reports suggest that KKR might swap Shreyas Iyer, their current captain who led the team to the title in IPL 2024, for Suryakumar.

But whether Suryakumar Yadav wants to return to KKR or not remains to be seen. Suryakumar’s value has gone up several notches since he is now the captain of India as well. He was also part of the Indian team that clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup title.

It all depends on what Suryakumar Yadav and Mumbai Indians decide now. With not much time left for the mega auction, MI will have to take a major decision that could possibly determine their future as well.

Suryakumar Yadav’s IPL record

Suryakumar started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. He was part of KKR’s IPL-winning team in 2014. But he was traded to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Nitish Rana.

Surya’s performance at Mumbai Indians gradually improved to become a beast in IPL cricket. He batted primarily in the top order and lost several matches with his ability to score runs all over the field. He has scored 3594 runs in 150 IPL matches so far at an average of 32.28 and a strike rate of 145.33.

In his first series as full-time Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav led India to a brilliant 3-0 win over Sri Lanka. His next assignment will be India’s T20I series against Bangladesh.
