India national T20I cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav has faced a major injury scare amid his ambitions to make a comeback in Tests. According to reports, the batsman could even be ruled out of the 2024 Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav suffered a hand injury during the match against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament. Though the severity of the injury is not known, there are doubts about his participation in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024.

Suryakumar got injured during the third day of the match while playing in the second innings of TNCA XI. The Indian T20I captain was playing in a leg slip and it was there that he suffered a hand injury, which did not look good as he was in immense pain after the hit.

Musheer Khan flicked a leg ball towards Tamil Nadu batsman Pradosh Ranjan Paul and launched it towards Suryakumar Yadav at leg slip, where Suryakumar Yadav was located. The Indian captain tried to stop the ball but the ball bounced back and hit him on the hand.

When the ball hit him, Suryakumar winced in pain and shook his hand. He held his injured hand tightly as he seemed to be in immense pain. Physiotherapists rushed to treat him but he still seemed to be in pain. The right-handed bowler was forced to leave the field and did not play on the third day.

Suryakumar did not come out to bat in Mumbai’s second innings. He managed just 30 runs in the first innings. The team managed just 223 runs in the second innings and faced a defeat by 286 runs. They had a poor outing while batting in the first innings where they were bowled out for just 156 runs.

There has been no official confirmation regarding Suryakumar’s injury as of yet. The Mumbai Cricket Association has not provided any update on the severity of the injury. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to participate in the Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav is eager to return to the Indian Test scene

Suryakumar was recently named as the Indian captain of the T20I team. He took over the role after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after leading the team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, ending India’s 11-year title drought.

However, despite being considered a T20 specialist, Suryakumar Yadav recently expressed his strong desire to return to the Test team. He said that he wants to play for the Indian National Cricket Team in the longest format of the game.

Suryakumar has played one Test match for the Indian national cricket team. He made his debut against the Australian national cricket team but could not take the stage by storm. If he is fit, he will want to make a big impact in the 2024 Duleep Trophy to defend his position against the Indian Test team, which will be involved in around 10 Test matches in the coming months.
