Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape have announced the names of the players they have retained for the third season of SA20.

The Sunrisers managed to defend their title this year by beating the Durban Super Giants in the final. Half-centuries from Tom Abell and Tristan Stubbs had propelled the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to a total of 204/3 in 20 overs. The Aiden Markram-led side then bowled out the Super Giants for just 115 runs to win the game by 89 runs.

After successfully defending their title, Sunrisers Eastern Cape have retained 12 of the 19 players who were part of their squad for SA20 2024. The seven players who have been released by the franchise are: Dawid Malan, M Daniel Worrall, Adam Rossington, Temba Bavuma, Ayabulela Gqamane, Sarel Erwee, Brydon Carse.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape sign four players:

In addition to retaining 12 players, Sunrisers Eastern Cape have also signed four players ahead of the third season of SA20. They have secured the services of South African batsman David Bedingham, English duo Zak Crawley and Craig Overton and Dutch all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe for the third season of the tournament.

Bedingham is yet to play for SA20 but has made his Test debut for South Africa. Earlier this year, he decided to play for the Test team during the tour of New Zealand instead of playing for SA20. He has played 63 T20s so far and has scored 1375 runs.

Crawley will also be playing in SA20 for the first time. However, the England star has extensive experience in T20 leagues, having played in the Big Bash League and T20 Blast. Overton will also be playing in the competition for the first time, while van der Merwe has rejoined Sunrisers Eastern Cape after playing for them in the first season.
