The team has undergone a change of crucial leadership in the middle of a disappointing race in T20is.

The former Delhi Capitals (DC) Shai Hope has been appointed Captain of the Western Indies in the T20i format. Shai Hope replaces Rovman Powell, who is currently operating by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2025. Rovman Powell renounces as the patron of the Western Indies T20i after having led the team in 37 games.

Summary of Powell’s captaincy and Shai Hope’s experience

Under Powell’s captaincy, the Western Indies won 19 T20is while they lost 17. A game ended without results. Powell took the Western Indies in his World Cup T20 T20 campaign, where they reached the Super 8 stage. However, the Western Indies could not qualify for the semifinals after finishing third in group 2.

Shai Hope, on the other hand, has been capturing the Odi side of the Western Indies since 2022.

Darren Sammy supports Shai Hope

Darren Sammy, the current chief coach of the Western Indies, supported the 31 -year -old to do it well as the pattern in the shortest format as well. “The appointment of Shai Hope indicates a progressive change for the Cricket of the Western Indies, given its success with the 50s on the team in the last 18 months,” Sammy told Crick West Indies.

The first assignment of Shai Hope as a patron of T20i of the West Indies will be a series of three games against Ireland in June. The Western Indies will play three hate and so many T20 in Ireland before traveling to England. Also against England, the Western Indies will play three hate and so many T20IS.
