The KKR CEO explains the choice of Ajinkya Rahane on Venkatesh Iyer as Captain of IPL 2025

Before IPL 2025, KKR CEO, Venky Mysore, explains the thought process behind Rahane’s selection on Venkatesh for leadership role.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made a strange decision to announce Ajinkya Rahane as his next captain when they had Venkatesh Iyer, who seemed a favorite to assume responsibility. In particular, Rahane did not sell in the first round before Kkr bought it at its base price at the posterior stage.

Before IPL 2025, KKR CEO, Venky Mysore, explains the thought process behind Rahane’s selection on Venkatesh for leadership role. In Espncricinfo, Venky explained that the captaincy can tax young people, and Rahane has a stable head to handle the IPL pressure.

“IPL is a fairly intense tournament. Clearly, we think very well about Venkatesh Iyer, but at the same time [captaincy] He is taxing a young man. We have seen many people having many challenges with him. [handling captaincy] As they advance. A very stable hand is needed, it requires a lot of maturity and experience that we feel that Ajinkya brings with it. ”

While Venky feels that it is the best adjustment, Rahane’s captaincy album is not inspiring. He has led an IPL team 25 times, but won only nine games at a rate of abysmal victories of 36%.

Why is Ajinkya Rahane an ideal captaincy option for IPL 2025?

While Ajinkya Rahane has a great experience leading his side at several levels, it may not be the best option to lead an IPL team, especially at this stage. The main reason is his game T20 below the torque, since Rahane has never been a T20 batter, although he showed flashes of brilliance in patches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Your IPL record is not too good either. While making the strongest XI KKR, Rahane will not find one place and can only be an impact player at best.

Now that he is the captain, Kkr feels tempted to Angkrish Raguvanshi bench. If he were not the captain, Rahane could have been used as a pinch batter in the media while playing as an impact player, a role that played well for CSK.

The only good thing about Rahane’s appointment is that Venkatesh Iyer will have more time to learn captaincy skills before taking care of the franchise. However, KKR had a good opportunity to deliver a new team to a new captain and let him carry with his own methods.
