Tom Latham will remain with the team despite the reverse of injuries
Latham will remain with the Black Caps team in the hope of recovering physical aptitude in time for the second test against Zimbabwe that begins on August 7. Santner, the limited pattern of New Zealand, recently led his team to a victory in the title of T20i Tri-series, beating South Africa in the final.
Zimbabwe hosts were the third team in the competition. Rob Walter, New Zealand chief coach, said his team will lose the experience of Latham in the first test.
“It is greatly disappointing to lose the first test, as a captain but also as an integral part of the team,” he said. “It’s never great when you lose your captain, who is a world -class opening hitter and a great team man, but said we are going to work very hard to have it available for the second test.
“We will continue to evaluate and see if a replacement player is necessary, but at this stage we hope he will recover in time,” he added.
The 49 -year -old man expected Santner to produce a positive result in the first test against Zimbabwe. “While the format is different, it certainly has the respect of the players and will be supported by some highly experienced test Cricket players, so I trust that it will do a great job,” he said.
