Pakistan and PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly willing to take another big step, this time against the players, following Pakistan’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup last month.

Pakistan cricket has been in crisis for quite some time now. Things have not been going too well for them on the cricket field in the last few months and the poor performance in the T20 World Cup has highlighted the issues plaguing Pakistan cricket at the moment.

According to media reports, the atmosphere in the dressing room is not very promising at the moment and the fitness issue remains a big problem. At the T20 World Cup, Pakistan suffered a humiliating elimination in the group stage.

They suffered defeats against USA and India before beating Canada and Ireland. However, the two wins were not enough to secure a spot in the Super 8. Earlier this week, the PCB sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq as selectors and also formed a new 9-member selection committee.

PCB to take action against players:

After taking action against the selectors, the PCB is also willing to take action against Pakistani players. According to Arfa Feroz Zake of Pakistani news outlet Geo News, the PCB is willing to cut the salary of Pakistani players.

The deduction could see the salaries of the players reduced from 60 Lac PKR to 40 Lac PKR. He also stated that the players are now happy with the new salary structure and many of them might choose not to sign the central contract for the 2024-25 season.

“Sources say that PCB is willing to cut the salaries of centrally contracted players of Pakistan cricket team which may drop from 60 Lac PKR to 40 Lac PKR,” Arfa wrote.

“According to some sources, Pakistan cricket team players are not happy after learning that PCB is planning to cut salaries in line with the new financial model. Few players might NOT show interest in signing the 2024-25 central contract!” he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will be back in action next month when they take on Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home. The series is their first assignment since last month’s T20 World Cup. According to reports, several senior players could be rested for that series.
