Former Indian cricketer RP Singh shared his verdict on the dismissal of Joe Root in the ongoing Rajkot Test against England. He said if anyone had played that shot at the national or club level, his career could have been over.
England batsman Joe Root has come under immense scrutiny after his dismissal in the ongoing third Test against India. The right-hander came out in a strange way and it is fair to say that the first batsman gave away his wicket and put pressure on his team.
Joe Root attempted a reverse delivery off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah but it did not connect and was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at second slip. The shot came out of nowhere because he was batting decently well up to that point. If he had stayed there long, things would have been different in England.
Joe Root continued his torrid career in Test cricket in India in the ongoing series. The batsman died for 18 runs off 31 balls and his wicket led to the team’s collapse. The way he came out, the batsman faced criticism for his poor form.
RP Singh criticized Joe Root for the kind of shot he played. He said that he never thought a player of Root’s caliber would play that kind of shot. Sharing his view on the batsman’s dismissal at Colors Cineplex, he explained, “The shot that Joe Root played, if anyone had played that shot at the national or club level, his career could have been over. They would have asked him to correct things first and come because you can’t play like that.
“I can’t imagine how the support staff would view that shot. I never thought such a compact player would play this shot and that too against Jasprit Bumrah. I might have thought two days ago that he would try something unique since Bumrah was anyway dismissing him.”
Jasprit Bumrah has been on top of Joe Root in this series – RP Singh
RP Singh further pointed out that there was a battle between Jasprit Bumrah and Joe Root. He pointed out that the pacer has been on top of the batsman, who must be careful while facing. He added:
“A game was being played between this game. Jasprit Bumrah has been all over him (Root) in this series and he has been dismissed in different ways. It’s not like they fired him in the same way. I would say that Joe Root rather thinks that he should be careful with Jasprit Bumrah.
“Sometimes when you have those thoughts, you start missing goals and the pressure increases even more. Jasprit Bumrah has made it clear that he would fire him. It happens that many players have those records against a particular player.”
This was the ninth time that Jasprit Bumrah removed Joe Root in Test cricket. In the ongoing series, the batsman has scored 70 runs at an average of 14.00 in five innings.
