Delhi Capitals has not yet finished the replacement of Harry Brook for IPL 2025.

According to the reports, England’s batter Ben Duckett rejected the offer of Delhi Capitals (DC) to be replaced for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The franchise has been looking for a replacement player after Harry Brook retired from the tournament.

Speaking in the program after the Cricbuzz Live, former captain of England Michael Vaughan revealed that DC approached Duckett.

“I heard a whisper that they (Capitals from Delhi) were by Ben Duckett, but Ben Duckett doesn’t want to come,” Vaughan said.

Vaughan also added that the all -terrain of New Zealand, Daryl Mitchell, could be another option that Delhi Capitals could be seeing.

There have been rumors of all terrain of Sri Lanka, Dasun Shanaka, entering the DC team. Shanoka has been training with the team and also has ties with the franchise, after having played for Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.

Harry Brook left Delhi’s capitals again

Delhi Capitals had bought Harry Brook at the 2024 IPL auction, but had to retire due to the death of his grandmother. The franchise acquired it again at the IPL 2025 auction for INR 6.25 million rupees. This time, however, he chose not to concentrate on his commitments from England.

His decision was not good with the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) and was forbidden to participate in the IPL over the next two years.

Approaching Ben Duckett made little sense

Ben Duckett is an excellent player and has been in the best phase of his career. However, it made little sense that DC was after him when they already have four openers on the side. They have FAF du Plessis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, KL Rahul and Abishek Porel, all of which are the most appropriate at the top of the order.

Duckett has a very good game against Spin and can also hit in the average order. But DC has already set the place of Du Plessis in the XI of play by designating it as the Vicecapitan. The low chances of appearing in the XI game could have been a reason why Duckett rejected the offer.

Delhi Capitals will begin its IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Visakhapatnam.
