‘Those are the legends of the game’: Cheteshwar Pujara praises two Indian stars for their immense contributions

Maybe their experience is waning now, but that doesn’t change the fact that these two contributed more than anyone else to India’s victories.

Cheteshwar Pujara praised two Indian players and highlighted their contributions to Indian cricket. The duo has been instrumental in India’s immense success in the longest format and has been at the center of it every time India achieved something big, especially at home.

Pujara praised two spin wizards, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who have been consistent for almost a decade. On ESPNcricinfo, Pujara claimed that India will never get someone as good as Ashwin and Jadeja in Test cricket.

“You can’t have the quality of Ashwin and Jadeja. I have seen a lot of spinners in the Indian domestic circuit, but I wouldn’t say we have any real replacements for them. Yes, we have some young and talented bowlers who we need to groom, but those are the legends of the game. “I don’t think we will ever get someone as good as Ashwin or Jadeja.”

In a shocking move, India dropped both spinners from the playing XI during the first Test match against Australia in Perth. Instead, they chose Washington Sundar and opted for a lone player in the match, a strategy that caught the attention of several.

The impact of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja

Without a doubt, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been among India’s biggest match winners in the longest format. The duo have been consistent performers, especially at home, contributing with both bat and ball for an extended period.

Whenever the Indian team needed some wickets, the captain would throw balls at them and ask them to make those gains. Furthermore, they saved India after suffering a collapse in the batting department almost always, contributing with both bat and ball.

India were unbeaten for over years at home before the just concluded series against New Zealand where India were defeated 3-0. Ashwin and Jadeja were the main reason behind India’s superior dominance in their own backyard.

Maybe their experience is waning now, but that doesn’t change the fact that these two contributed more than anyone else to India’s victories. And Pujara has made a valid argument clear: Replacing these two will be impossible.
