We have penciled in three SRH players who could get a surprising retainer ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were the second-best team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, finishing second behind Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. They played an aggressive style of cricket and revolutionized batting with a rampant attack from the first ball.
They had a solid team, full of winning players from top to bottom. Therefore, they will find it difficult to make their withholdings before the deadline and may have to make some difficult decisions.
However, they could also make some surprising decisions and retain some who will be released before the auction. We have written down three such players who could get a surprising retainer ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Marco Jansen
Marco Jansen may not have performed to expectations, but SRH may try to retain him for multiple reasons. He is a true all-rounder with huge potential and his main value lies in his bowling where he plays with the new ball and can generate movement and also has the tools to be a successful bowler.
Furthermore, he is more than capable with the bat and plays situationally, and his batting value will only improve from here on out. With age on his side, Jansen is a long-term investment who can serve SRH at his peak for years to come.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar
It looks like Sunrisers Hyderabad’s most loyal player Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be released by the franchise ahead of the new season. However, he is among the best bowlers of all phases and is a proven player in the league.
He has shown signs of regression, but has been playing in local tournaments to get his beast back. His wealth of experience will always come in handy and the team can build the bowling unit around him.
Markande Mayank
It may seem like a shocking choice, but SRH has a chance to retain Mayank Markande as an uncapped player. His only outing in India was in 2019 and he fits the criteria of being a limitless player.
He has done well in some sections of the league and knows SRH’s setup well having been there for the last few seasons. He can be retained for INR 4 crore, and SRH will have an astute player who can be a long-term investment as he will improve even more from now on.
