Washington Sundar will be on the radar of three franchises on Day 2 of the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah on Monday.
As the IPL 2025 mega auction moves towards its second day, several franchises will look to strengthen their teams by acquiring some key players. One such player who attracts a lot of attention is Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar.
Released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the auction, Sundar’s recent performances in domestic and Indian cricket have made him a sought-after asset. Notably, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians have the financial flexibility to bid competitively for Sundar.
Kings of Punjab (PBKS)
After an aggressive first day in the auction, Punjab Kings have a remaining purse of Rs 22.50 crore. Their acquisitions have left them with a balanced squad, but the addition of a versatile player like Washington Sundar could give them the depth they are looking for.
Sundar’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball, especially in the middle overs, aligns with PBKS’ need for a reliable all-rounder. His off-spin bowling offers an advantage on spin-friendly pitches, and his batting ability adds a reliable floating option to the middle-order. Given its remaining budget, PBKS is well positioned to engage in a bidding war for Sundar’s services.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
RCB enters Day 2 with the largest purse remaining among all franchises, standing at INR 30.65 crore. This substantial budget gives them a significant advantage when it comes to landing top players. RCB’s interest in Washington Sundar is well-founded, considering his previous stint with the franchise, where he demonstrated his abilities as a reliable all-rounder.
His familiarity with the team dynamics and ability to perform under pressure make him an attractive prospect for RCB. Additionally, Sundar’s economical bowling in the powerplay overs and his ability to bat anywhere in the batting order address specific areas that RCB are looking to strengthen. With ample funds at their disposal, RCB is expected to be a formidable contender in the race to acquire Sundar.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
Mumbai Indians, with a remaining purse of Rs 26.10 crore, are also well positioned in the race to sign Washington Sundar. Sundar’s potential addition aligns with MI’s philosophy of investing in young, versatile players who can contribute in all departments.

Sundar’s proficiency in both batting and bowling offers MI the flexibility to adapt to various match situations. His experience in international cricket and previous IPL seasons adds to his appeal as a seasoned campaigner capable of delivering consistent performances. Given their financial capacity and selective approach to players so far, Mumbai Indians are likely to pursue Sundar to improve their team’s depth and versatility.
