Indian national cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir shared a farewell video from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after joining the national team. He came up with an emotional message saying that it was time for him to do something special for the nation.

Gautam Gambhir has ended his association with IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. This comes after he was appointed as the head coach of the Indian National Cricket Team. Joining the team means, as per BCCI policy, that he cannot play a role in any team other than Team India.

Gautam Gambhir, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to two titles in 2012 and 2014, was brought in as the franchise’s mentor ahead of IPL 2024. However, it didn’t take long for him to make an impact as in his first stint as a mentor, KKR won their third IPL title.

Since the last few seasons, Kolkata Knight Riders have been struggling to get going and the presence of Gautam Gambhir turned the team’s fortunes around. The team mentor instilled a fearless attitude in the players and completely changed the way they played cricket.

But his presence was limited to just one year and now he will be joining the Indian team. This means that the position of mentor at the Kolkata Knight Riders is now vacant as Gautam Gambhir has left the team, leaving behind a great legacy.

Gautam Gambhir spoke about his love for Kolkata and expressed his emotions in poetry. In a video posted on his Twitter account, he explained:

“I smile when you smile. I cry when you cry. I win when you win. I lose when you lose. I dream when you dream. I achieve when you achieve. I believe in you and I have become you. I am you, Calcutta. I am just one of you. I know your struggles and I know where it hurts. Rejections have crushed me, but like you, I wake up embracing hope. I get beaten down every day, but like you, I am yet to be defeated. They tell me to be popular. I tell them to be a winner.

“I am your Calcutta. I am just one of you. This air of Calcutta speaks to me. The sounds, the streets, the udders, the traffic jams, all convey how you feel. I hear what you say, but I know what you mean. I know you are emotional, and so am I. I know you are demanding, and so am I.”

It will all be for that tricolour. It will all be for our India – Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir recited their bond and said it is time for them to write bigger and bolder letters, not in purple ink, but in that blue. He concluded by urging fans to come together and do something special for India. He explained:

“Calcutta, we are a bond, we are a story, we are a team. And now the time has come for us to create some legacies together. The time has come for us to write bigger and bolder scripts. The script is not in violet ink, but in that blue, the precious Indian blue.

“When we both received our new cards, we promised each other that we will never walk alone. We will always walk shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand. It will all be for that tricolour. It will all be for our India.”
