Aakash Chopra praised the referee for following proper protocols. Shedding light on Ravichandran Ashwin’s unique antics at TNPL 2023, he said in a video posted to his YouTube channel.
“Ashwin Anna’s little affair has landed TNPL on the world map. He was bowling very well, he had picked a wicket and there was an appeal for another wicket where the umpire ended it”.
“Ashwin and everyone was happy, but the batter called for a review. The third referee was very good. He followed protocol, checking all angles, and found that the ball had missed the bat when the spike came due to the bat hitting the ground. Well done, he refereed very well and said he was not out.”

Aakash Chopra went on to say that the incident was beyond his comprehension and that one cannot review a review. He pointed out that the off-spinner asked the referee to judge. He explained:
“Ashwin said he wanted to check it out again. He checked a review and it happened too. It is beyond my comprehension. I feel that when TNPL officials look back, they will say that this option was not available.”
