Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha spoke about the Indian team combination for the T20 World Cup 2024. While talking about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he said that in the next two or three series things will become clear and everyone will know what the think tank is thinking.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is about seven months away and if there is anyone who is most confused about the combination, it is the Indian cricket team. There has been no sign of seniors in the team and yet, the youngsters are getting the opportunity.
It is fair to say that there is experimentation going on in Indian cricket ahead of the T20 World Cup and there is currently no clarity on who will be in the team. There is not even certainty about who will be the team captain in the event. Also, there have been a lot of debates surrounding a selection of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The seniors have not played T20Is since the 2022 T20 World Cup and coming directly into the team instead of the youngsters, who have been playing since last year, would not be fair. But the kind of skill that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bring to the team cannot be ignored.
Pragyan Ojha said that it is not correct to say that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not part of the white-ball setup. He highlighted that the BCCI is testing young players to see how they will react in a given situation. Speaking on the sidelines of LLC, he said (quoted by TOI):
“It is too quick to say that Rohit and Virat are not part of the white-ball setup. The think tank and management know the potential of Rohit and Virat. Right now new players are being given a chance, they are being understood how they will react in a given situation.
“That the management and the selectors will decide; In the next two or three series, we will know what the Indian team’s think tank is thinking.”
They will want to go there and win: AB de Villiers on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli playing in T20 World Cup 2024
Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers shared his verdict on the debate regarding Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s play in the T20 World Cup 2024. He said that the duo would want to go there and win the tournament.
Ab de Villiers noted that if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are hungry to play in the tournament, then they should definitely do so. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
“We just have to see them (Rohit and Virat) there. It’s about his hunger. Are they hungry to go there and win the T20 World Cup? I think so. I can’t speak for them, but I think they’ll want to go there and win. The T20 World Cup is a short tournament and you guys are gearing up to have another chance to win a World Cup. So I see them going there.”
It remains to be seen what combination India will opt for in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
