RCB has featured some of the best Indian and foreign players in the history of the league.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is among the most popular teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While they are yet to have a trophy, RCB came close twice but fell short in the final.
However, one thing is certain: they have been entertainers of the highest level and have achieved notable things on the field. The main reason is their top personnel as RCB has had some of the best Indian and foreign players.
In the same vein, we look at the five best foreign players to play for RCB in the history of the IPL.
Chris Gayle
Chris Gayle is easily one of the best batsmen to have played in the Indian Premier League, and his presence was enough to terrify the players. While playing for RCB, he has 3420 runs at an average of 43.29 and strike rate of 154.40 in 90 IPL innings.
Furthermore, he also has 21 fifties and five fifties, making him one of the most successful batsmen in the league. Overall, he is RCB’s third highest run-scorer in the IPL.
AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers was a great match winner and another sensational batsman for RCB in the league. He has 4522 runs at an average of 41.10 and a strike rate of 158.33 in 145 innings, including 37 fifties and two centuries.
It will not be an exaggeration to say that AB de Villiers was among the most complete batsmen in world cricket, and he continued it in the IPL. He is RCB’s second-highest run-scorer of all time in the league.
Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis played for RCB for only three seasons, but his impact lasted longer than other players. Apart from captaining RCB, he also batted beautifully in all three seasons and was their second-highest scorer in the previous cycle.
He scored 1636 runs at an average of 38.04 and a strike rate of 146.99 in 45 innings for the Challengers. Faf also hit 15 fifties, the fourth-highest figure in the franchise.
Glenn Maxwell
When Glenn Maxwell joined RCB in 2021, few expected him to make as much of an impact as he did. He has 1266 runs at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 159.24 in 50 innings, including 12 fifties.
Furthermore, he also took 18 wickets at 29.05 runs each. He was one of the main reasons for RCB’s immense success in the previous cycle, although he could not perform as expected in the last season.
Dale Steyn
Dale Steyn’s impact was more than just numbers. In terms of records, Steyn has 38 wickets at an average of 28.86, including a best of 3/18.
However, he took some of the biggest wickets and is the leading wicket-taker among the franchise’s overseas bowlers. Steyn’s economy rate of 7.32 shows he was frugal in most games and played in tight areas in a high-scoring league known for big scores.
