Over the years, SRH has boasted of some solid foreign players, and some have also led the team for several seasons.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Barring a few below-average seasons, they have been competitive in most editions and qualified for the playoffs.
One of the key reasons behind their immense success is having a strong group of foreign players. Over the years, SRH has boasted of some solid foreign players, and some have also led the team for several seasons.
We look at Sunrisers Hyderabad’s top five foreign players in IPL history.
David Warner
David Warner, an IPL legend, is the best to ever play for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. He has 4014 runs at an average of 49.55 and a strike rate of 142.59 in 95 IPL innings for SRH, including 40 fifties.
Warner also led SRH to their only title in 2016, defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final. While relations between Warner and team owner SRH later deteriorated, it does not change the fact that he has been the biggest match-winner in the league.
Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow has played for two franchises, but his finest hour came at Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he formed a lethal opening partnership with David Warner. He has 1038 runs at an average of 41.52 and a strike rate of 142.19 in 28 IPL innings, including seven fifties and one century.
When he joined SRH, Bairstow was at the peak of his powers and put in consistent performances for the Orange Army. Despite playing only three seasons for SRH, his impact was lasting.

Kane Williamson
Like Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson’s best came while performing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has 2101 runs at an average of 36.22 and a strike rate of 126.03 in 75 IPL innings, comprising 18 fifties.
Overall, Williamson is SRH’s third-leading run scorer in league history. He also successfully led them in IPL 2018 when SRH reached the final.
Heinrich Klaasen
Heinrich Klaasen has played only two seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad so far, but he has already established himself as a successful batsman. He has 927 runs at an average of 44.14 and a strike rate of 173.92 in 26 IPL innings, including six fifties and one century.
He was one of the main reasons behind SRH’s explosive batting approach last season and batted with great intent. Given the shape he’s in, Klaasen will definitely climb the scoring charts in the coming seasons.
Rashid Khan
Sunrisers Hyderabad parting ways with Rashid Khan was one of the most shocking decisions ahead of the IPL 2022 auction. He was one of their best players and contributed with both bat and ball.
He took 93 wickets, the second most for SRH, at an average of 20.55 and a strike rate of 19.48 in 76 IPL innings, with a best of 3/7. Rashid joined SRH in 2017 and stayed with them until 2021 before moving to Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022.
