Day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) auction witnessed intense bidding wars between franchises as teams broke the bank to secure the services of the best players in the business.

Among them, foreign players are a big draw, especially with some of the biggest match-winners and game-changers on the horizon.

Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans – INR 15.75 Crore)

Jos Buttler marked a significant change in his career when he left the Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2025 IPL tournament. The England white-ball captain, who had been with the Royal family since 2018, became the highest-paid foreign star in the end on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 auction after the Gujarat Titans secured his services for a whopping Rs 15.75 crore.

Trent Boult (Mumbai Indians – INR 12.5 Crore)

New Zealand pacer Trent Boult is the second most expensive player on the list after returning to Mumbai Indians following a bid of Rs 12.5 crore. Boult has already plied his trade with the five-time champions during the IPL 2021 season.

Boult can bowl the new ball in the powerplay and can also make a comeback during the death overs. Adding to their ability to make crucial breakthroughs, MI have made a solid signing in the Kiwi, who can form a lethal partnership alongside Jasprit Bumrah in the pace department.

Jofra Archer (Rajasthan Royals – INR 12.5 Crore)

Rajasthan Royals, who had the lowest purse among all the franchises, decided to splurge on English speedster Jofra Archer. The England international returned to the Royals family, having initially made his IPL debut with RR in 2018.

Archer has been a proven contender in RR colors. He was even named MVP in the last full IPL season he played, claiming 20 wickets for Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 edition held in the United Arab Emirates.

Josh Hazlewood (Royal Challengers Bengaluru – INR 12.5 Crore)

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood returned to RCB and at the same time earned a lot of money, bagging a lucrative contract of Rs 12.5 million. He was last bought by the Bengaluru-based team during the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Mitchell Starc, who was the most expensive player in last year’s auction for INR 24.75 crore, saw a drop in his stock. However, the Australian is still among the top five highest-paid foreign stars in the IPL 205 auction after DC bought him for INR 11.75 crore.

DC needs a leader in the bowling department and that is where they saw Starc as an ideal candidate, given his vast international experience.
