Former Australia coach Justin Langer wanted to change Travis Head’s batting style and asked him to work on his defence. The incident was revealed by former Australia captain Tim Paine amid the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Travis Head is usually a batsman who likes to bat aggressively rather than bat in a traditional form of Test cricket. His attacking style has earned him many successes in his career so far. However, Langer was long unconvinced by the success of this style of batting.

The difference of opinion between Justin Langer and Travis Head
While speaking on SEN, Tim Paine spoke about the time when Justin Langer was Australia’s head coach and Travis Head was still a young player in the team. Paine talked about the difference of opinion between Head and Langer, which was quite evident.
“I don’t think either of them mind me saying this, but I think he (Travis Head) and JL (Justin Langer) used to have a real difference of opinion. They were trying so hard to get him to work on his defense and it wasn’t the way he wanted to do it,” Paine said.
Speaking further on the topic, Paine revealed that Justin Langer wanted to work on travis headThe defensive game and the latter also tried his best to impress his head coach since he was young. However, Head found success with his attacking rather than defensive style.
“But I was a young Test player trying to impress and stay in the team, so I was trying to please everyone a bit. “I think that has been the biggest change in his performance because he stays true to the way he wants to play,” he added.

Tim Paine also mentioned during the discussion that Travis Head will go through a rough patch at some point, but he won’t abandon his aggressive hitting style. He stated that Head is currently enjoying the best moment of his career.
“Sometimes he’s going to miss and sometimes he’s going to have tough moments, but he’s going to be super aggressive, he’s going to play his shots and he’s going to try to be a match winner and we’re just seeing him blossom in the moment in all formats of the game. ”said the former Australia goalkeeper.

Travis Head recently played a match-winning knock of 140 at home in Adelaide during the second Test against India. His counter-attacking knock came off just 141 balls and he smashed 17 fours and 4 sixes.
It was an enthralling innings from a player who has been in excellent form across all formats over the last few years. Head’s belligerent knock in Adelaide earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award. He is expected to score well in the upcoming tests as well.
