Two IPL franchises eye Uttarakhand Premier League sensation in IPL 2025 auction

Yuvraj Chaudhary, a rising star from Uttarakhand, has caught everyone’s attention with his impressive performances in the Uttrakhand Premier League and domestic cricket this year. He is a flexible batsman, capable of opening the innings or playing in the middle order.

He opened the innings in the 2023/24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and went on to score 244 runs in six matches, which included two half-centuries.

Yuvraj was simply sensational in the Uttarakhand Premier League where he emerged as the leading run-getter by scoring 322 runs in five matches. He scored a century, three half-centuries and had a strike rate of 192.81.

He has so far batted in the middle order for Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy and has already made a mark with scores of 88 and 49 in the two games so far.

With the IPL auction now in sight, his form at the moment has put him in the limelight. Notably, two teams have already shown interest in him and he is likely to be one of their key targets in the IPL auction.

Bombay Indians

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have invited Yuvraj Chaudhary for Tests. After finishing last last season, they could look for him in the next auction. Mumbai already have some of the top six Indian batsmen in the league, but with retention rules in place, they cannot retain everyone. Each team is allowed to retain only five international players and one non-international player.

Mumbai are likely to retain key players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. For next season, they will need to find players who can open and also bat in the middle order. With Yuvraj’s recent performances, he could be a great fit for the team if MI decides to go for him in the auction.

Rajasthan Royals

Another team that invited Yuvraj Chaudhary for the trials is Rajasthan Royals. After making the playoffs last season, the Royals could pursue him at the auction. They are expected to retain key batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag and Jos Buttler.

Beyond Parag, however, they do not have an Indian player who can consolidate the middle order. With Yuvraj’s recent performance, he would fit in well in Rajasthan. If they add him, Rajasthan could settle for a good mix of Indian stars at the top and solid players in the middle order.
