The Indian team came into the ongoing third IND vs NZ Test in a bid to clinch a victory after conceding the series 2-0 in the first two games.
After bowling out the Kiwis for 235 in the first innings, the Indian team suffered an early setback when captain Rohit Sharma lost narrowly for 18.
However, it looked like the Indian innings would stabilize after Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to put together 50 runs. But things would soon start going downhill when Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed while attempting a reverse sweep which started a collapse.
Night watchman Mohammed Siraj came in next, but he only lasted one ball, after being caught lbw and wasting a review. The hosts would be dealt a further blow as former India captain Virat Kohli would abandon another six balls later due to a suicidal run-out attempt. In short, India lost three wickets in just eight balls.
After the dismal batting display, India’s leading all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had contributed a five-wicket haul earlier in the day, was left shocked.

Speaking to the press after the Day 1 game, Jadeja said: “(Last 15 minutes) It was unexpected. But miscommunications and errors in judgment happen. We have tomorrow. We need to build small partnerships and get the score over 235.”
Earlier in the day, Jadeja hit a new mark with his fife.

With this five-wicket haul, Jadeja has moved ahead of Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan in the list of India’s top Test wicket-takers. He is now ranked fifth, only behind Harbhajan Singh (417), Kapil Dev (434), R Ashwin (533) and Anil Kumble (619).
