‘Unfounded rumours’: Mohammed Shami claims reports of his new injury are false

His absence would have left a significant void in the bowling attack, especially in Australia where his superior skills will more than come in handy.

Some reports suggest that Mohammed Shami has suffered a fresh injury and will miss the impending Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year. However, Shami has termed these reports as false and urged the public to stop believing in such rumours.

He said he is trying to recover and neither the BCCI nor him have mentioned anything about him being out of the Australia tour. He has also asked everyone to stop spreading fake news without his statement through his official X account (formerly Twitter).

“Why these kinds of unfounded rumors? I am working hard and doing the best I can to recover. Neither the BCCI nor I have mentioned that I am out of the Border Gavaskar series. I ask the public to stop paying attention to this type of news coming from unofficial sources. “Please stop and don’t spread such fake, fake, fake news, especially without my statement.”

His position has been a great relief for everyone, as more setbacks would have been tough on him and his team. His absence would have left a significant void in the bowling attack, especially in Australia where his superior skills will more than come in handy.

Mohammed Shami could return for the New Zealand tests

A BCCI source close to the developments revealed to TOI that Shami’s recovery is on track and he could return to the set-up during the New Zealand series. Additionally, the relevant team is monitoring him as he completes his rehabilitation.

“Shami’s rehabilitation is on track. Testing in New Zealand remains a realistic goal. He is under the watchful eye of BCCI specialists and is making very good progress,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI.

Some earlier reports stated that Shami had developed a swollen knee during his rehabilitation, which will keep him out of action for at least 6-8 weeks. Now, Shami has refuted those reports and confirmed that he is recovering well.

His last competitive cricket was in the 2023 World Cup, where he was the leading wicket-taker. He underwent surgery to repair his Achilles tendon and has been working hard with the NCA as he looks to return.
