Unsold foreign star from IPL 2025 auction shows what franchises missed, smashes six boundaries in one in BBL

His recent hit offers a powerful statement after failing to sell out.

England wicketkeeper batsman Ben Duckett put in an emphatic batting display in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), which would surely make Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises regret it after he went unsold in last month’s IPL 2025 auction.

The 30-year-old left-hander testified to his great skill by smashing six boundaries in one during a match between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers.

Duckett, who was listed at a base price of INR 2 crore at the auction in Jeddah, began his attack in the fourth innings during the innings off Sydney Sixers spinner Akeal Hosein, the number one T20I bowler in the ranking. Duckett started the finish with a boundary, pushing Akeal Hosein’s short delivery over mid-wicket. He got lucky with the next ball, passing through the empty slip region for another four.

On the third ball, Duckett adjusted to the line and drove a pull over mid-wicket and then reverse-swept with a full toss following. The fifth boundary also came on a reverse sweep as he finished the over in style, bowling a slower delivery for his sixth consecutive boundary.

Ben Duckett makes IPL franchises regret it

After his blitzkrieg, Ben Duckett continued his carnage, easily dominating the Sydney Sixers pitchers. The England batsman reached his half-century in just 22 balls, making a powerful statement after going unsold at the IPL auction.

Duckett finished his innings with an impressive 68 runs off 29 balls, at a strike rate of 234. His knock included 10 boundaries and 2 sixes, propelling the Melbourne Stars to a formidable total of 194 runs.

However, Duckett’s knock went in vain as Sydney Sixers opener James Vince delivered a batting masterclass, hitting an unbeaten 101* to chase the target with 11 balls remaining.
