USA qualify automatically for T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan knocked out

The teams currently competing for a place in the Super 8 stage of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 have another reason to fight for a place in the next round. A place in the top eight of the ongoing tournament will also earn them a place in the next T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

As in the current competition, a total of 20 teams will also participate in the next edition. Two of those 20 teams will be India and Sri Lanka as they will automatically qualify to be co-hosts. India has already made it to the Super 8s of the ongoing tournament, while Sri Lanka did not make it, but will be able to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Apart from the two co-hosts, the top eight teams in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 will also qualify automatically. With India also in the Super 8s, a total of seven teams will qualify for this year’s T20 World Cup.

They will be joined by the top three ranked teams in the ICC T20I rankings starting June 30, 2024. The number of teams will increase to 12. The remaining eight spots will be decided through the ICC regional qualifiers.

United States qualifies for the next T20 World Cup:

The United States have booked their place in the Super 8s of the ongoing T20 World Cup after their match against Ireland was cancelled. As a result, they have also qualified for the upcoming T20 World Cup. They joined India from Group A in the Super 8s, while Pakistan, Ireland and Canada were eliminated.

It also means that Pakistan will now have to ensure that they remain one of the top three ranked teams in the ICC T20I rankings as of June 30 to gain automatic qualification. They currently sit in fourth place in the standings and appear ready to make the cut.

Meanwhile, the other teams that have qualified for the Super 8 are Australia, Afghanistan, the West Indies and South Africa.
