USA FORM: CREATING HISTORY

The United States went into the tournament with a lot of hope on the back of a serious defeat of Bangladesh and they began with two impressive victories. They firstly chased down 195 against Canada in just 17.2 overs before a super over win against Pakistan saw them in a brilliant position that allowed for a loss against India, where they also had their moments, and then a wash out against Ireland in Florida to see them through to the Super 8’s.

SOUTH AFRICA FORM: FORGETTING HISTORY

South Africa are known for being the ultimate ‘bottlers’ in ICC competition, for want of a better phrase. The Proteas had a few concerns over the form of key players before the campaign and they haven’t been overly convincing throughout the group stages but did finish with a 100% record. They laboured to a chase of 104 against the Dutch when they were 3-3 and 20-4 before a slender four-run win against Bangladesh and then just a one-run win against Nepal.

USA BETTING ANALYSIS

The United States’ aforementioned chase of Canada a couple of weeks ago was platformed by an excellent knock from Aaron Jones, who made 94 from just 40 deliveries. Jones has not quite hit those heights but did show capability of, on a good surface, being able to hit pace. Given that the South Africans will lead with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen and Ottniel Baartman; Jones to be the USA’s top scorer in the match (9/2) would be a good value bet.

The Americans’ victory over Pakistan and also forcing India to have a wobble in New York was down to some excellent bowling from the likes of Saurabh Netravalkar, Nosthush Kenjige and Ali Khan. Netravalkar’s swing at the top could prove difficult for an out of form South African top order, most notably Quinton de Kock, and him to take two or more wickets in the match (5/2) also seems a good bet.

SOUTH AFRICA BETTING ANALYSIS

Anrich Nortje came into this tournament on the back of a really underwhelming Indian Premier League season but he began by taking 4-7 against Sri Lanka and has continued to be a threat with the ball. His extra pace that the USA may not have faced too often means him being South Africa’s best bowler on Wednesday (3/1) is worth a bet itself.

There are real question marks over the form of Quinton de Kock and he has struggled to get into a good run after his own poor trot with Reeza Hendricks opening the batting. The South Africans scoring less than 23.5 for the loss of their first wicket (5/6) may well be the way to go for this one.

USA VS SOUTH AFRICA EXPERT PREDICTION

There have a been a few surprises in this tournament and the biggest one was indeed the United States defeating Pakistan. South Africa have so far avoided embarrassment thus far but they have been very fortunate. They really should have lost to Nepal in that aforementioned nail-biter, whilst both the Netherlands and Bangladesh had big chances to topple them, too. If Saurabh Netravalkar can set about the South African top order and USA can remain steady throughout with some late order hitting from Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh then we could have another major upset here.

USA VS SOUTH AFRICA TOP TIP: USA TO WIN
