Australian opener David Warner is set to retire from Test cricket after the Pakistan series. The fourth and final Test match at the SCG will be his last Test for Australia. He will need to be in good shape to play all the Test matches.

David Warner recently won the World Cup with the Australian team. This was his second World Cup with the team in a career spanning almost 15 years. The 2023 World Cup was the third for the team. Warner will play his final Test at his home ground in Sydney against Pakistan, which is the last of the three Tests.

Australia has already named the team for the Test series. Lance Morris is the only uncapped player named in the 14-man Test squad for the Perth Test. Pakistan, who had a tough World Cup, will now need to play some good cricket to beat the Australians in their own backyard.

Meanwhile, Usman Khawaja spoke about David Warner and his Test career so far. He also spoke about life after David Warnert at the Test Arena while talking about his next batting partner.

Can’t pick fit teams and players: Usman Khawaja on life after David Warner

Khawaja is not too worried about his next starting partner but urged the selectors to choose the right player who can thrive and succeed at the international level.

“To be honest, (who will be my next opening partner) I don’t really care, really. Whoever the selectors choose, they will do so because they believe they are the best for the job,” Khawaja said on SEN Radio.

“I don’t even believe in the ‘bat-off’ that people are talking about right now. I think it will amount to much more than that. You can’t pick fit teams. “You have to pick teams based on who you think is the best player,” he added.

He further urged the selectors not to select players in their current form and to think long term behind the selection of certain players.

“If we pick teams in good form, the Australian team would change every two weeks, so you can’t do that. But I think if you go a little further back over the last five years, all the guys in the running would have scored a ton of runs. It would be very similar. It just depends on what sample size you want it to be,” Khawaja concluded.

The first test in Perth begins in Sydney on December 14. The final test in Sydney begins on January 3.
