India and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has returned to international cricket for the ongoing three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh.
Making his first appearance for the national team in 1066 days, Chakravarthy returned to the Indian team thanks to a fantastic performance in the last season of the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2024, Chakravarthy took 21 wickets and combined with Sunil Narine to guide KKR to win the title, after a gap of 10 years.
On his return to the national team, the 33-year-old took a three-wicket haul with the scalps of Towhid Hridoy (12), Jaker Ali (8) and Rishad Hossain (11) as India beat Bangladesh in the first T20I .
Following his stellar comeback, Varun Chakravathy attributed his comeback to a technical change in his bowling style.

Varun Chakravarthy reveals technical adjustments in his bowling style
Speaking at the post-match press conference on the same topic, Chakravarthy revealed that he was no longer bowling the traditional off-spin bowler but had transitioned to an over-spin bowler.
βI used to play with side spin, but right now I’ve completely switched to being an overspin player.β
βIt’s a detailed technical aspect of spin bowling, but it took me more than two years. I tried it gradually in TNPL and IPL. Although we also had to work on the mental aspect, the greatest effort I put in was on the technical aspect,β he added.
Earlier, Chakravarthy had debuted for India in the run-up to the 2021 T20 World Cup but was dropped right after the team’s unsuccessful campaign in the United Arab Emirates.
