Former Indian cricketer and coach Venkatesh Prasad conducted a question and answer session with fans on his social media account X (formerly known as Twitter). Venkatesh Prasad discussed with fans various topics including the future Fab Four, top batsman and split captaincy in the Indian national cricket team.

Venkatesh Prasad, known for his candid views on Indian cricket on social media, represented India in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs during his career. The former fast bowler took 292 international wickets, including 96 in Tests at an average of 35, with seven five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match haul.

The former cricketer achieved greater success in ODIs, taking 196 wickets at an average of 32.31, including four four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. After retiring, he served as India’s bowling coach from 2007 to 2009 and held coaching roles with IPL teams Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings.

Venkatesh Prasad picks ‘Future Fab 4’ at Cricket

During a question and answer session on social media, a fan asked Venkatesh Prasad about his “future Fab 4” in cricket. Prasad responded by naming Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harry Brook as the final picks.

“Jaiswal, Brook definitely,” Prasad replied.

The term “Fab Four”, introduced by the late New Zealand cricketer Martin Crowe, referred to Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Williamson. These four players have been consistent performers in international cricket and are often compared for their batting excellence.

Venkatesh Prasad reveals the best batsman

Another fan asked Prasad to name the best batsman among Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virat Kohli. Prasad responded with “Sachin”.

“Who was the best batsman according to you? #Sachin #Lara #Kohli #AskVenky,” another fan asked.

“Sachin,” Prasad replied.

Sachin Tendulkar, known as the ‘God of Cricket’, holds the record for most runs in Test (15,921) and ODI (18,426) formats. The former batsman also boasts the most international centuries, with 100 to his name. Tendulkar is the only cricketer to have played 200 Test matches in international cricket.

It may not be a bad idea in future – Venkatesh Prasad

When asked if India should have separate captains for Tests and ODIs, Venkatesh Prasad said it might not be a bad idea to go ahead.

“Sir, do you think India should have a separate test and odi captain? #AskVenky,” a user asked.

“It may not be a bad idea from now on,” Prasad said.

Rohit Sharma is the captain of the ODI and Test teams. He left T20I cricket after leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. It is worth mentioning that his future in Tests is also uncertain due to his poor performance. Excluded from the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
