Team India’s stars have received a hero’s welcome in the country following their triumphant campaign in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final to win the T20 World Cup after 17 years. The trophy also ended years of pain for India as they won an ICC competition after a gap of 11 years. The Men in Blue were between a rock and a hard place in the final on several occasions but managed to hold their nerves and crossed the finishing line in the end.

The team was scheduled to land in India on Tuesday, but their departure from Barbados was delayed by two days due to Hurricane Beryl. They finally managed to leave the island on Wednesday and landed in India on Thursday morning. The team landed at New Delhi’s IGI airport and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence before leaving for Mumbai.

In Mumbai, the victorious Indian team took part in a victory parade on an open-top bus, where they were warmly welcomed by thousands of fans. The parade stretched from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium. More than 30,000 fans were also at the stadium as the Indian team and fans together celebrated the monumental win. The players took a victory lap and danced with the crowd before being congratulated by the BCCI.

Hyderabad welcomes Mohammed Siraj:

After celebrating victory in Mumbai on Thursday, Indian runner Mohammed Siraj landed in his hometown Hyderabad on Friday evening and as expected, a huge crowd was waiting for him outside the airport. Chants of “India, India” could be heard everywhere as fans welcomed their local hero.

Mohammed Siraj played three matches in the T20 World Cup and was replaced in the starting XI by Kuldeep Yadav as soon as the American leg of the tournament ended. As the conditions in the Caribbean were more favourable for the bowlers, India decided to bring Kuldeep in place of Siraj into the team and the decision paid off.

In five matches, Kuldeep took 10 wickets and played a key role in India’s victory. Siraj, on the other hand, took 1 wicket in 3 matches.
