Indian National Cricket Team Batting coach Vikram Rathour has attributed the success of young players at the international level to the strong domestic foundation of Indian cricket.
India’s national cricket system is considered one of the best in the world and has produced many star players. Recently, players like Sarfaraz Khan, KS Bharat, Rajat Patidar and Dhruv Jurel made it to the Indian Test team thanks to their strong performance in domestic cricket.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has also played wonderfully in domestic cricket as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and has set the stage on fire in the ongoing five-match Test series against the England national cricket team. He is currently the series’ leading run-getter and has already scored 545 runs in just 6 innings. The 22-year-old has an astonishing average of 109.00 and has also hit two double centuries.
In the absence of players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the young Indians stepped up in the England series and helped the team take a 2-1 lead after the loss in the opening clash of the series.
Meanwhile, Vikram Rathour has said that the experience of playing domestic cricket has helped the players develop cricket intelligence and they have become cricket smart.
“It’s good for the team but it’s better for them. “Once you get to this level and start playing Test cricket, everything is said and done, there are nerves, there is some pressure, but if you start well, it doesn’t get any better than that,” Rathour in a press conference ahead of the 4th Test.
“And the young players that have come into the team have had a good start and it feels good. They have cricket intelligence, which again is a great sign. “It is a great message, coming from Indian domestic cricket, that the new players are smart at cricket.”
It’s hard to overlook key players – Vikram Rathour
Vikram Rathour further admitted that the absence of key players is a setback for the team, but added that it also provides opportunities for young players to shine on the big stage.
“It is difficult to lose key players, it is better for the team if everyone is available, but a series like this is a good opportunity for young players, who have played on these grounds, to establish themselves.
“There is always a belief that our domestic cricket is so strong that you are pretty sure that whoever comes has done so after they have done good. We don’t know what will happen when KL Rahul and Virat Kohli return. “That’s not a concern right now.”
The five-match Test series currently stands at 2-1 with the Indian national cricket team leading the way. The fourth high-voltage Test Match will be played from February 23 at the CEJA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. A win for India would seal the series for them and end their Test series winning streak. Ben Stokes & Co. in the Bazball era.
