Laxman Sivaramakrishnan praises unique captaincy styles of Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev
Sivaramakrishnan pointed out that Gavaskar was a captain who always asked for justification for any request. He further described Kapil Dev as an instinctive leader who trusted his instincts to take decisions on the field. Sivaramakrishnan recalled a memorable moment from the 1983 World Cup triumph, when the legendary all-rounder gave Madan Lal an extra due to his instincts.
The former spinner also acknowledged the contributions of N. Venkataraghavan, terming him an excellent captain with notable leadership qualities. Sivaramakrishnan explained: “Sunil Gavaskar was the best captain I played with. He was very good with strategy and analytical approach. Kapil Dev was a very instinctive captain.”
He signed off saying: “You will be guided by your instinct. He gave an extra to Madan Lal in 1983; That’s instinctive captaincy. With Sunil Gavaskar you can ask for anything, but you have to justify why you want to do it. Doing that will give you the freedom to set up your camps and plan your attack. Venkataraghavan was also an excellent captain; “He was wonderful as a captain.”
