Virat Kohli scored a lot of runs, but not at a good rate: Cameron Green

Australia National Cricket Team’s star all-rounder Cameron Green has made a big revelation about the heroics of India National Cricket Team’s batting great Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Kohli won the orange cap in IPL 2024 by finishing with 741 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, with one century and five fifties.

Virat Kohli batted exceptionally well for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) throughout the season and played a key role in the team reaching the playoffs after a terrible first half of the competition.

Ahead of the start of IPL 2024, Virat Kohli’s strike rate was a major point of discussion and many raised doubts about his selection in the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which was right after the IPL.

Virat Kohli responded to his critics by scoring 316 runs in the first 5 matches at an average of 105.33 and a strike rate of 146.3, which was a bit under par. However, he decided to change his approach in the next half of the competition and improved his strike rate to 161.6, tearing the bowlers apart right from the start.

Now, Virat Kohli’s RCB teammate Cameron Green has revealed that the former captain’s change in approach came after a conversation with the team management.

Being able to just “turn it on” after a conversation is ridiculous – Cameron Green on Virat Kohli

Speaking on LiSTNR Sport YouTube channel, Cameron Green revealed that Kohli scored a huge number of runs in the first half of IPL 2024, but not at the rate RCB had expected.

He added that the modern player had a conversation with the team management and showed a noticeable change in his approach and attack rate.

“I think in the first half of the tournament he scored a lot of runs, but probably not at the rate we were hoping for,” Cameron Green said on the podcast.

“And then he was so happy to change his attitude and be the guy who would take care of the bowlers from the first ball. Then he had an amazing, outstanding finale to the tournament. To be able to just ‘light up the pitch’ after a conversation is ridiculous.”

Cameron Green further said that watching the Indian batsman in the nets is difficult because of the elite perfection he possesses.

“Just watching Virat, how perfect he is, can be difficult. You think, ‘God, I just want to do the same thing. He makes everything look so easy,’” Green said.

The Australian all-rounder also revealed that he asked Virat Kohli a few questions during his stint at RCB but did not try to bombard him.

“I’ve asked him a few questions. At the same time, he’s quite different to me, especially in terms of size. I can’t jump up to the wicket and hit it like he does,” Green said.

“But there are definitely some things that can be learned from his approach to the subject. What was very impressive was how he is still trying to learn.”

“I didn’t try to bombard him and I tried to give him as much space as I could. I understand, albeit to a lesser extent, what he’s going through, but I appreciated the energy he gave me.”

Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, after an incredible turnaround, managed to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs but faced a 4-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator, and their title drought continued.
