Virat Kohli taken for scans ahead of March simulation in Perth ahead of Aus vs India Test

Kohli has been exceptional in Australia, averaging an impressive 54 in four tours since 2012-13.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Virat Kohli underwent scans on Thursday for an “unspecified” injury, raising concerns for India ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The exact nature of Kohli’s injury is still unknown, but he took part in an intra-team simulation match on Friday. His presence on the field should alleviate some of India’s concerns about the availability of their top batsman.

However, The Times of India confirmed that Kohli is “absolutely fine” and batted without any discomfort during the match simulation, reassuring fans and the team ahead of the series.

“Virat Kohli is absolutely fine. He batted in the mock match without any discomfort and also received a hit in the net after coming out. There are no worries,” according to TOI.

Virat Kohli was the first Indian player to arrive in Perth for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has been training with the team for the last few days.

The former Indian captain has been going through a prolonged poor patch in Test cricket, with his last century coming against the West Indies in July 2023 in Port of Spain. During the recent home series against New Zealand, he managed only fifty-four single-digit scores in six innings.

The 36-year-old has just two fifties in his last 14 Test innings, and in his last 60 innings, his average stands at a modest 31.7 with just two hundreds. In 2024, his average is even lower: 22.72 in six tests.

Despite these struggles, Kohli has been exceptional in Australia, averaging an impressive 54 across four tours since 2012-13. This strong record in Australia offers some hope for the Indian team ahead of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

KL Rahul’s injury is not serious: there are no major concerns

There was some concern for KL Rahul as he was hit by a ball during practice and could not continue batting. However, the team management is cautious given the long duration of the tour. It is believed that there are no major issues with Rahul’s injury.

Rahul is expected to open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first Test, scheduled to begin on November 22 in Perth, especially if captain Rohit Sharma is unavailable. Rohit is currently training and batting in Mumbai, and his departure for the tour will depend on the birth of his second child.
