Warner helicopter to land on SCG outfield ahead of BBL clash

David Warner will now touch down at the SCG when he arrives by helicopter from his brother’s wedding to play for the Sydney Thunder against the Sydney Sixers on Friday.

The initial plan was to use the Allianz Stadium, next to the cricket ground, but that was scrapped. It is now expected to land on the outfield where the “Thanks Dave” logo was painted during his farewell test.

Weather permitting, you will arrive around 5pm for what could be a packed event, after attending the wedding in the Hunter Valley and then making a quick departure to Cessnock Airport.

“He’s going to go out of his way to come play for us,” Thunder speedster Gurinder Sandhu said. “We love having him here. Last year was incredible for us, maybe he didn’t score as many runs as he would have liked, but it was incredible to have him around the group and pass on knowledge. He is one of the best men on the team. All fans can enjoy playing cricket.

“It’s a bit Hollywood, isn’t it? It’s very Davey,” joked Sydney Sixers’ Sean Abbott. “I bought the Lime bike today and will do the same tomorrow night and be out the door when Davey lands.

“I’m glad they’re making it happen because I think every cricket fan in the country wants to see David Warner in the BBL and I’m looking forward to facing him. One of the best players in the world and has been for a long time.” time”.

Before last season, Warner signed a big-money two-year deal with Thunder as Cricket Australia made a big push to get international stars back into the tournament. He has indicated his desire to return next season, although he will fit the appearances around his commentary work in the India Test series.

The Sixers, looking to secure a place in the final, will have Steven Smith available for the game with some of Australia’s Test players making BBL appearances in the gap between the Pakistan and West Indies series.

The game against the Sixers will be one of three appearances Warner will make for the Thunder this season following his Test retirement. The club has little chance of reaching the last 16, but Warner would not have been available for that as he heads to the ILT20 in the United Arab Emirates.
