Zimbabwe batsman Brian Bennett was run out in dramatic fashion in the ongoing first T20I against India at the Harare Sports Club.
The incident took place in the last over of the powerplay when India captain Shubman Gill introduced Ravi Bishnoi into the attack. Before that over, Bennett had enjoyed a good performance and was batting on 23 runs off 14 balls. He came out to bat in the second over after Mukesh Kumar dismissed opener Innocent Kaia for a golden duck.
Bennett started off positively and hit five boundaries in no time. However, he couldn’t convert his start into a big score as he was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi on the first ball of his over. On the first ball of the sixth over, the Indian leg-spinner mistook Bennett for his trademark slip. And while the right-handed batsman had to leave the field after the dismissal, it wasn’t before some drama took place.
After Bennett was beaten completely by the googly, wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel appealed for a catch behind, though Bishnoi was unsure. The on-field umpire was not convinced and the decision was soon referred to the upper deck as the bales were on the pitch.
Replays showed Bennett had been bowled out because the ball had grazed the off stump. The drama did not end there. The third umpire surprisingly did not switch off the giant screen before quickly correcting his error.

Talking about the game, Zimbabwe finished their innings with a modest total of 115 for 9 after being asked to bat first. Clive Madande was the top scorer for the hosts, scoring an unbeaten 29 runs while no Zimbabwe batsman managed to touch the 30-run mark.
At one stage, the hosts were tottering at 90 for 9 but eventually managed to post a total of over 100 thanks to Madande’s unbeaten knock. For India, Bishnoi shone with the ball, taking 4 for 13 in 4 overs, including two maidens.
