Watch: Coach JP Duminy forced off field as South Africa players collapse in third ODI against Ireland

South Africa national cricket team batting coach JP Duminy returned to the field in the national colors for the ongoing third ODI against the Ireland national cricket team. The decisive match between the teams will take place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

During Ireland’s final innings, South Africa white-ball coach JP Duminy was seen on the field. The team’s former Proteas player fielded for the entire last over and many wondered why JP Duminy fielded.

However, it was revealed that Proteas white-ball batting coach JP Duminy was on the park field as some of the South African players left the field with fatigue and body aches. It was learned that the heat and humidity of Abu Dhabi got the better of them. That’s why JP Duminy had to be replaced.

Ireland register a decent total of 284 runs on the board

The Irish national cricket team won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a decent outing with the bat and posted a challenging total on the board. Andrew Balbirine (45) and skipper Paul Stirling (85). The duo added 101 runs for the opening partnership, putting pressure on the opposition.

After that, Curtis Campher (34) also played a vital hand before Harry Tector (60) slammed a half-century. However, things did not go well after that as they lost wickets at regular intervals and could not finish the innings on a high.

The South African bowlers made a strong comeback and ensured they restricted the opponents to a total of 290 runs. Lizaad Williams was the star with the ball as he returned with figures of 4/56 in the 10 overs he bowled in the game.

Ottneil Baartman and Andile Phehlukwayo also picked two wickets each. The bowlers did their job in the heat and would now expect the batsmen to chase down the target and make it 3-0 in the three-match series.

The last two games have not gone as planned for us as a batting group – Andrew Balbirine

Andrew Balbirine spoke about the team’s performance with the bat, admitting that they haven’t done anything good with the bat lately and that runs were crucial for them. He also spoke about his association with Paul Stirling and said that the captain batted brilliantly.

Andrew Balbirine also spoke about his omission from the T20I team and said that he trusts himself to be skilled enough to perform well in ODIs and Tests. He also praised Harry Tector and said the young batsman will be the leader of our batting group for years to come. Speaking after the innings, he explained:

“The last few games have not gone as planned for us as a batting group. We wanted to establish a platform. Runs on the board are crucial. We have done something similar to what they did in the last few games. Now we have to put it in the areas correct. [on the pull shot] It has been a great strength for me, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. Paul batted brilliantly and the other boys came out and batted with intent.

“[on his omission from the T20 side] The selectors have made a call and I agree. I trust myself to be skilled enough to get good results in ODIs and Tests. [on Tector] I always believe that performance is temporary and class is permanent. He will be the leader of our batting group for years to come. It was good for him to make some runs. We have to be disciplined with the ball and take advantage of opportunities when they present themselves,” he concluded.
