Jaffna Kings all-rounder Fabian Allen showed his class with the ball in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 Qualifier 2 match against Kandy Falcons. The match between the two teams was held at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday (July 20).

In a closely contested match, Jaffna Kings emerged victorious by just one run and advanced to the final of the tournament. They will now face Galle Marvels in the final of the tournament on Sunday (July 21) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

One of the main architects of Jaffna Kings’ victory was spinner Fabian Allen. He wove a web around the Kandy Falcons batsmen and helped his team get wickets at the crucial moment of the match. He looked invincible and bowled in fantastic areas.

After Jaffna Kings scored a total of 187 runs, Kandy Falcons were having a great time with the bat. However, the introduction of Fabian Allen changed the game. The Caribbean player looked threatening from the start as he understood the conditions very well and bowled the ball with great effect.

Fabian Allen removed Dinesh Chandimal, Andre Fletcher, Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka. He clean bowled all the batsmen as he looked too good for them. The bowler picked up four wickets in an important game and returned with the figures of 4/24 in his share of 4 overs.

What caught the attention of many was his celebrations after every wicket. Fabian Allen came up with some very funny celebrations and entertained the crowd. He did dancing celebrations along with a limping celebration after taking wickets.

After Fabian Allen’s spell, Jaffna Kings bowled well but Kandy Falcons batsmen did not let up either. The match was decided in the last over with 17 runs needed. Jaffna bowler Asitha Fernando, though conceded runs, kept his cool to help his team win the game by just 1 run.

“It’s a great feeling to be playing in the final,” says Jaffna Kings captain Charith Asalanka

Jaffna Kings captain Charith Asalanka spoke about the thrilling win over Kandy Falcons and said that although they won the match, there is still an important game to play. He praised his bowlers for their effort and revealed that he would have a conversation with the coach regarding the combination for the final. He explained:

“It’s a great feeling to play the final, but tomorrow is the most important match of the tournament. I thought 188 was a very good result, but they attacked us hard, it was a tough match and I think the bowlers were good. I will talk to the coach about the team combination for tomorrow’s match,” he concluded.

Jaffna Kings will be hoping to produce a similar performance in the final and lift the trophy on Sunday in Colombo.
