Melbourne Stars batsman Hilton Cartwright faced a serious, career-threatening injury during the ongoing The Big Bash League (BBL 2024-25) game against Perth Scorchers. The match between the two teams will take place at the Perth Stadium in Perth.

In what will be a blow for the Melbourne Stars, Hilton Cartwright faced a serious injury in the Big Bash League opener. It happened during the second innings of the game when the batsman tried to save the boundary and got injured.

Hilton Cartwright injured his left shoulder and neck while trying to save the boundary.

On the third ball of the 13th over, Adam Milne bowled a full toss to Cooper Connolly as he moved forward to move towards the gap. Hilton Cartwright ran to his left from sweeper cover and dove to try to knock the ball back. He, however, pushed the ball towards the wings and immediately fell.

Cartwright injured his left shoulder landing poorly on his left shoulder and also caused some damage to the neck area. The physios immediately ran out to treat the batter and the stretcher also came out to take him off the field.

Hilton Cartwright was also forced to wear a neck brace around his neck. Before they took him away in a moving cart. Thanks to his fortune, he was conscious and spoke even as he lay with his eyes closed. They slowly pulled him out and took him to the hospital.

Hilton has been taken to hospital for neck scans – Melbourne Stars

Following his injury, Melbourne Stars provided an official update on the batsman and stated that he was taken to hospital for scans on his neck. The franchise also added that they will provide an update on the batsman soon.

The franchise statement read: “Hilton has been taken to the hospital for scans on his neck. We will provide everyone with an update when we have more information.”

Hilton Cartwright did not have a great outing with the bat as he managed only 18 runs with the bat. He came to bat at 5 and seemed irritable. Cartwright faced 17 balls during his stay at the crease and hit just one four in his innings.

With the kind of knock he faced, it seems that has been the curtain call for him in this edition of the Big Bash League. Melbourne Stars expect him to regain fitness and return to the team in the second half of the ongoing tournament.
