James Anderson bid farewell to Test cricket in style after the first Test match between England and West Indies at Lord’s. James Anderson took the wicket of Joshua Da Silva in the second innings, which became his latest victim in international cricket.

It is noteworthy that James Anderson announced that he will retire from Tests after the first Test between England and West Indies at Lord’s in London. The right-hander made his debut in 2002 with an ODI match against Australia. He worked with the England team for over 22 years and ended up as the most successful bowler in international cricket.

In the first Test match between England and West Indies, the right-handed bowler took 1 wicket in the first innings and scored 26 runs. Notably, the veteran bowler got the last wicket in the first innings and was cheered by the stadium, which stood up to applaud him.

Anderson later took 3 wickets for 32 runs in the second innings, giving him a total of 4 wickets in the match. He dismissed Jayden Seales in the first innings and West Indies wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva was his last wicket in the match.

James Anderson finishes as the third-highest wicket-taker in Tests

It is noteworthy that the England player finished with 704 wickets in 188 Test matches and finished as the third player with the most wickets in the longest format. Notably, the late Shane Warne has 708 Test wickets while Muttiah Muralitharan has 800 wickets and occupies the top two spots.

Interestingly, Anderson has finished as the most successful pace player in the Test format with 704 scalps in 350 innings. His best bowling performance is 7/42 while he has averaged 26.45. His teammate Stuart Broad, who ended his career at The Ashes 2023 last year, is fifth with 604 wickets and is the next seamer on the list.

In total, in his career, Anderson has taken 991 wickets in 401 matches across Tests, ODIs and T20Is at an average of 27.28. He is responsible for 269 scalps in ODIs and 18 scalps in T20Is. However, he left both formats in 2015 and 2009 respectively.

England crush West Indies in Anderson’s final match

Meanwhile, England also ended on a winning note in James Anderson’s final game. Ben Stokes and Co. bowled out West Indies by an innings and 114 runs. West Indies were bowled out for just 121 and 136 in the first and second innings.

England’s first innings score of 391-10, the only innings in which they had to bat, was enough to edge out the visitors in the match. However, Jimmy Anderson was not the best bowler of the game.

Gus Atkinson took 7 wickets in the first innings and 5 wickets in the second innings to take a total of 12 wickets in the match. He was also awarded as the player of the match for his path-breaking performance.
