Australia national cricket team batsman Steve Smith will surely have had a glimpse of the 2019 Ashes in the ongoing third ODI against the England national cricket team. The match between the two teams will be held at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Tuesday (September 24).
Steve Smith, who failed to get going in the second ODI against England, put in a vital performance for his side in the ongoing third ODI. The top-order batsman scored a decent half-century and ensured that his team’s innings got back on track after they lost a few wickets quickly.
Smith looked in great control and played some superb strokes in his innings. But the highlight of his knock was his battle with Jofra Archer. The duo, who have had a great competition in the past, once again made sure to give their best for the team.
Both Smith and Jofra Archer tried to get on top of each other, and during their battle, the fast bowler might have reminded the batsman of what he did to him during the 2019 Ashes. The fast bowler had hit the batsman on the head with his bouncer while facing concussion and was ruled out of the game.
In the ongoing game, something similar happened. Smith was on the ground against Jofra Archer, but not in the way a fast bowler would have wanted. The batsman fell to the ground after he tried to be cheeky and get some quick runs for himself and his team.
Jofra Archer bowled a medium-length delivery outside off, which Steve Smith took a long way. The Australian National Cricket Team batsman attempted a scoop shot, but missed and in the process fell to the ground.

However, Smith was not to be carried away by that as the batsman was fully focused and played a magnificent innings for his team. The right-hander, who scored 32 runs in the first ODI, scored a crucial half-century and ensured that he put his team in a good position.
However, his stay at the crease was cut short by Jofra Archer. The fast bowler bowled a short ball which Smith caught. Brydon Carse ran from deep backward square leg to his left and, at knee slip, took it with two hands. The ball was travelling but he made it look very easy.
This was the first time Jofra Archer had dismissed Steve Smith in an ODI. But the fast bowler has kept the ball tight. In the 50 balls he has bowled, he has allowed just 29 runs at a strike rate of just 58. The fast bowler has also bowled 32 scoreless balls.
Steve Smith finished with an innings of 60 runs off 82 balls. It looked like he was going to score big but he couldn’t. He also hit 5 fours in his innings and helped the Australian National Cricket Team score a total of 304 runs on the board.
