A video of Australian All-Rounder and Melbourne Stars captain Marcus Stoinis is doing the rounds on Cricket Board to give it a 4. -Ban on matches in Big Bash League 2023-24.

On Monday, December 11, ahead of the Sydney Sixers’ clash against the Hobart Hurricanes at the University of Tasmania Stadium, England pacer Tom Curran was seen warming up pitchside where he also ended up entering the field with his nails put.

Following the rule books, no team member except the Captain and Head Coach may inspect or approach the 22-yard track. Seeing Curran making the run for him, BBL umpire Muhammad Quereshi, who was present at the time, asked him to stop approaching the field and stood inside the crease in line with the stumps.

Quereshi did so in an attempt to prevent Curran from standing on the field, but the latter decided to continue his run, almost colliding with the referee before brushing his shoulders. After that, both were seen exchanging a few words with the Englishman also abusing Quereshi for not letting him do his “pre-match ritual” to get into the rhythm.

As a result of the altercation in Tasmania, Cricket Australia investigated the matter and decided to impose a 4-match suspension on Curran which was also challenged by the Sydney Sixers management, but the verdict remained against the team that came second in the Big Bash League 2023.

And now, days after that incident, Australian All-Rounder, the great Marcus Stoinis, was seen doing the same run on the sidelines, almost as if mocking Tom Curran. The video was uploaded by Australian journalist Tom Decent with a caption reading: “Just a clip to show that during this year’s Big Bash there have been cases of players doing tours of the field before a game.”

Will Cricket Australia take action against Marcus Stoinis for mocking Tom Curran?

The video of Marcus Stoinis reviewing the release is receiving mixed reactions from fans on social media. But for those wondering if Stoinis will also receive a ban like Tom Curran, it is highly unlikely to happen.

Technically, (as also mentioned above) only team captains and head coaches can be present near the field area for inspection, but not for preparation.

Marcus Stoinis is the captain of the Melbourne Stars, so he received the green light from the referees to be on the field. And what’s interesting is that a referee was also present at the scene when Marcus Stoinis ran down the field, but it has yet to be determined whether any action will be taken or not.

Furthermore, Tom Curran was not only banned from running on the field, but was also reprimanded by Cricket Australia for disrespecting an official, something Curran also admitted. Marcus Stoinis has not abused or disrespected any referee, but he has violated the rule of entering the field as part of the pre-match preparations.

It will be interesting to see what Cricket Australia does to one of its players now. Will they ban it or just let it pass?
