Australia National Cricket Team Wicketkeeper-batsman and captain Matthew Wade was not happy after Indian National Cricket Team keeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma smashed a spectacular six at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Friday 1 December.
India were invited to bat first in the match and opening batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal (37) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) gave the team a bright start. They added 50 runs for the opening partnership.
The number 3 and 4 batsmen Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav could not perform well in the match but the next two batsmen Rinku Singh (46) and Jitesh Sharma (35) showed a batting masterclass.
Jitesh Sharma hit 3 sixes in the innings and after one of his sixes, the Australian captain did not look happy and shouted in anger. On the second ball of the 15th over, Jitesh bowled a Chris Green delivery for a huge six off 89m. After the maximum, the camera panned to goalkeeper Matthew Wade, who was apparently seen yelling at one of his defenders.
We just didn’t play spin very well – Matthew Wade
Batting first, India posted a massive total of 174/9 on the board and they managed to restrict Australia to 154/7 to win the match by a margin of 20 runs. With the victory, India also sealed the series with one match remaining.
Speaking after the match, Australian captain Matthew Wade blamed poor batting against spinners as one of the key reasons behind the team’s failure. He said:
“We just didn’t play very well with spin, we also lost some wickets in the middle. “The guys came in and did a good job but unfortunately we couldn’t get the job done with the bat.”
Matthew Wade added that having depth in the team ahead of the World Cup is very important for them. He said:
“Just continuing to learn from the guys who are already established in the team and having depth in the team is really key now that the WC T20 is just around the corner.”
