Travis Head returned for South Australia in the Sheffield Shield round, taking on Nathan Lyon’s New South Wales side and the left-hander treated fans to something special in his short stay in the middle.
Head made just 30 runs off 44 balls in the first innings after coming in to bat at number 4. But the stay included two huge sixes, one of which ended up in the snake pits adjacent to Sydney Olympic Park.

Head is awaiting the birth of his second child and this appearance could be his only one in the Shield before the summer Test begins in November against India.
Travis Head’s role has been the subject of debate in the Test side and he is touted as one of the options to partner Usman Khawaja at the top. In fact, Khawaja himself expressed his support for Head partnering him with Steve Smith to move up the order.
“At the end of the day, it is a decision for the selectors,” Khawaja told Fox Cricket. “But if you have me opening, Labuschagne three, Smith four… I feel like Travis Head might be the best fit.”
“He’s obviously had a lot of success opening the batting in one-day cricket and, looking at it, I’d probably lean towards him. But I repeat, it is not my decision,” Khawaja added.
