Watch: Phil Salt ends Kieron Pollard’s destructive cameo with a one-handed diving stunner

On the fourth ball of the 19th over during the SA20 2024 match between Pretoria Capitals and MI Cape Town, Capitals wicketkeeper Phil Salt made a brilliant catch to get rid of MI captain Kieron Pollard. Eathan Bosch bowled a slower, short-pitched ball to Pollard. The MI captain could not judge the speed of the ball and wanted to play it towards the fine leg area.

Kieron Pollard first tried to hit a drag shot against the short pitched ball, but at the last moment found that his shot was trying to guide it towards the fine leg area. However, in the end, Pollard spiked the ball and goalkeeper Phil Salt made a brilliant running catch as he retreated.

Batting first at Sahara Park Newlands, MI Cape Town scored 163/9. He was MI’s top scorer with the bat and played an innings of 60 runs off 46 balls. He smashed a total of four fours and a six during his stay at the crease. van der Dussen added 62 runs off 42 balls along with Ryan Rickleton. Rickleton played some aggressive shots and hit 35 runs off 24 balls.

Colin Ackermann drew first blood against MI Cape Town for the Pretoria Capitals. Ackermann removed Rickleton on the last ball of the seventh over when he was caught by Rilee Russouw. Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran couldn’t do much and were dismissed by Adil Rashid for 6 and 3 runs respectively. MI’s wicket slump continued when Dewald Brevis fell to Wayne Parnell and was caught by Phil Salt for 9 runs.

Rassie van der Dussen held on strongly at one end and continued to score runs to achieve a welcome half-century. After van der Dussen’s fall, all responsibility fell to MI captain Kieron Pollard. Before getting out in the 19th over, he had scored 33 runs off 16 balls with a total of 1 four and 4 sixes. Pollard played with a strike rate of 206.25. However, wickets continued to fall from the other end and no other batsman apart from van der Dussen, Ryan Rickleton and Pollard were able to reach double figures and get out cheaply.

Wayne Parnell was the star of the show for the Pretoria Capitals with the ball and took a four-wicket haul. On the other hand, Adil Rashid and Eathan Bosch got 2 wickets each, while Colin Ackermann finished with 1 wicket.

The Pretoria Capitals are not in the best of shape in the current edition of SA20 2024 and are currently at the bottom of the table with only two wins in 9 games. On the other hand, MI Cape Town’s current SA20 edition is not up to par and is in fourth place with 3 wins in 9 games and has 13 points on the board.

Many well-known figures from around the world, such as Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Naveen-ul-Haq, Jason Roy and many more, have participated in SA20, demonstrating its enormous success.
